Neon colors, body-con fabrics, logomania, ultrashort lengths, a hybridization of lingerie and activewear ..... Donatella Versace showed once again her playful side. The Versace resort 2016 collection includes sheer stockings, thigh highs or full, negligees under the main garments, mules of all types and pool sliders with major platforms. The colors are in neon greens and oranges, a bit of pink and black, all of it in contrasts. I especially love the vivid floral print that she used for flippy, pleated slipdresses and one pair of high-waisted bell-bottoms.
Gucci joined the spare-no-expense Resort show club yesterday, flying guests in from around the world to New York City’s art district, Chelsea. Newly appointed creative director Alessandro Michele charmed with geek chic – the nerd glasses, the pom-pom hats, the prim bow-and-nosegay collars. In an explosion of color, patterns and decorative flourishes it all came together in a mixture of whimsy and nostalgia. Colorful, eccentric and unabashedly retro, Michele called it “a modern translation of decorative. It’s one of my obsessions,” he said. “I tried to put together some beautiful kind of dressing in an eccentric way.”
Cannes closed out the festival on Sunday with a long list of winners and a few surprises. For 12 days, major Hollywood actresses and supermodels graced the film festival’s red carpet in clothes designed by the world’s greatest. Just as dramatic was the red carpet finale.
